Abstract:

Bereavement is an obvious thing that happens in life. It shouldn’t affect mental health severely if it is managed properly. But there are some factors and traumas a child goes through and suffers, due to which mental health is affected. There is a need to understand the impact of death of parents with HIV/AIDS because a huge population of children was orphaned by AIDS in developing and poor countries. Hence, this study aims to study developmental issues, bereavement and effects of HIV/AIDS on orphaned children in developing countries.
In order to fulfill this objective, this study will be based on secondary data collected from various sources like research papers and studies published in various peer-reviewed journals and databases like PubMed, Science Direct, SciHub, Google Scholar, NCBI, etc.
Studies on bereavement due to various health conditions of parents and their death have been consistent, but the scope and number of studies on children orphaned due to HIV-affected parents are limited. Hence, more studies are needed in future to prospectively determine causal relationships between psychological health of children and bereavement in longitudinal research and social factors should be examined moderating or mediating such associations among orphans in poor and developing countries.
