Paddy is the most important and extensively grown food crop in the World, provides a staple food of more than 60% of the global population. For more than half of the humanity “paddy is life”. Considering its important position, the United Nation designated year 2004 as the “International Year of Paddy”. In India, paddy is cultivated in an area of 46.38 million hectares producing 130.29 million tonnes and in Tamil Nadu, paddy is cultivated in an area of 2.21 million hectares producing 8.07 million tonnes. The present study was conducted in marakanam Block of Villuppuram district. A pre-tested and well-structured interview schedule was used to gather the data, and common statistical procedures like mean and percentage analysis were used to rank and categorize the respondents. The difficulties faced by the study area's respondents were gathered and tabulated under four categories: (a) Physical constraints (b) socioeconomic constraints (c) Institutional constraint and (d) Technological constraint. The precarious situation of farmers can be improved if the issues mentioned above are effectively resolved.
