Coherence is one of the essential elements of writing. As one of the writing types in the new college entrance examination, coherence is also a key criterion for assessing the quality of students’ continuation writing. This study aims to explore the current state of coherence in high school students’ continuation writing using Coh-Metrix. The research findings indicate that students’ coherence in continuation writing is relatively poor. Students can’t use the conjunctions and referential pronouns correctly, and the coherence between sentences is weak. Based on these findings, teachers can implement targeted instruction on coherence in continuation writing to help students improve their writing coherence.
