Sikh teachings offer a compelling vision of an ideal society based on gender equity and inclusion. Sikh philosophy is based on the concept of a just and fair society in which everyone, regardless of gender, caste, or social status, is treated with equal respect and dignity. This vision is expressed in the Sikh Gurus’ teachings and practices, which emphasize men and women’s natural equality and oppose societal standards that perpetuate prejudice.
Sikhism provides complete religious rights to women and actively encourages them to participate in all aspects of religious and social life. The Gurus broke down customary barriers by welcoming women into congregations and acknowledging their spiritual equality. The notion of Halemi-raj, or Welfare State, as envisioned by Sikh teachings emphasizes a society based on compassion, moral principles, and the well-being of all individuals, free of prejudice and exploitation.
The purpose of this paper is to understand and analyse the Sikh teachings and their practical application in governance.
